EU plans to double investment in agricultural research
The European Commission's commissioner in charge of scientific research and innovation, Mel Geigen-Quinn, stated in the European Parliament that the EU will increase its agricultural scientific research efforts, and the future agricultural scientific research investment plan will double the current one. Since the 1990 s, the EU's investment in agricultural scientific research has weakened. In order to reverse this situation, the EU's main scientific research plan "Horizon 2020" plans to invest 4 billion million euros in agricultural scientific research. The "Horizon 2020" scientific research plan will be implemented from 2014 to 2020, and EU scientific research funds will be supported by it. The focus of EU agricultural research is to provide more food and safer food for the EU through agricultural science and technology, while providing agricultural products for other countries and regions in the world; use new agricultural science and technology to deal with the great challenges brought by global warming to agricultural production, and actively try to use new agricultural science and technology to delay global warming; Use new agricultural science and technology to solve the problem of waste in food production, storage and transportation, and consumption.
