Seminar on "Open Development of Agriculture in Hainan Free Trade Port" Held in Haikou

On December 2, 2023, the "Hainan Free Trade Port Agricultural Open Development" seminar co-sponsored by the China Foreign Agricultural Economic Research Association, the Institute of Rural Development of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Hainan University and undertaken by the International Business School of Hainan University was successfully held in Haikou. More than 90 experts and scholars from 50 units including the Institute of Rural Development of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Renmin University of China, and China Agricultural University gathered together to discuss the open development of agriculture in Hainan Free Trade Port. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Tong Zelin, Vice Dean of International Business School of Hainan University.

Du Zhixiong, Secretary of the Party committee of the Institute of rural development, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a speech. He pointed out that from traditional agriculture to comprehensive agriculture, we should make good use of the international supply chain and take the national strategy as the guidance to promote the open development of China's agriculture and rural areas. Based on its regional advantages, Hainan should strengthen its research on foreign agricultural economy and strive to be the front line of foreign exchanges in agricultural and economic disciplines.

the keynote report of the conference was presided over by Professor Wang Linping, Vice President of China Foreign Agricultural Economic Research Association. Professor Fu Guohua of Hainan University made a report entitled "Research on the Development Path of Entrepreneurship and Innovation of China's Agricultural Reclamation", and proposed to create new achievements in the development of agricultural reclamation based on the "Nine Reclamation New Industry. Professor Lin Fachin of China Agricultural University gave a report entitled "The Evolution and Reconstruction of the Global Food Trade Pattern under the Unseen Changes in a Century", pointing out that under the influence of factors such as extreme climate, epidemic shocks, changes in policy and trade structure, it is necessary to pay attention to import diversification, and the potential for "South-South cooperation" is increasing. Liu Yingtao, a researcher at Yazhou Bay National Laboratory, made a report entitled "building a national important device to empower the construction of free trade port", which expounded his understanding of the national laboratory from the logical framework of "what", "why" and "how. Chen Yangfen, a researcher at the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, made a report entitled "the effectiveness, problems and suggestions of agricultural opening up in Hainan Free Trade Port". This paper expounds the characteristics and advantages of agriculture in Hainan Free Trade Port, the effectiveness of agricultural trade cooperation, the problems and challenges existing at this stage, and specific suggestions for agricultural trade cooperation. Dawei Zhou, member of the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the Agricultural Exchange Association, made a report entitled "Recommendations on Implementing the Industrial Positioning of Hainan Free Trade Port and Building a World Agriculture (Hainan) Headquarters Base", and proposed four paths suitable for Hainan's agricultural development.

In the afternoon, the seminar opened three parallel forums. Professor Cao Jianmin, Dean of the School of Economics and Management of Jilin Agricultural University, presided over a parallel forum with the theme of "open development of seed industry and global food security. Professor Zheng Dan, Dean of Bassers College of Qingdao Agricultural University, presided over the parallel forum with the theme of "Free Trade Port Agricultural Trade and Institutional Opening. Wei Kailei, responsible professor of the Department of Agricultural Economics of the International Business School of Hainan University, presided over a parallel forum with the theme of "Innovative Training of Undergraduate Talents in Tropical Agricultural Economics.

At this meeting, the participating experts conducted full and in-depth discussions on promoting the high-level opening and high-quality development of modern agriculture in Hainan, and formed a lot of consensus. In the future, they will focus on long-term development and devote themselves to serving the national strategy. The meeting successfully completed the scheduled agenda and concluded successfully.
