Zhu Lizhi was invited to give a keynote speech at an international conference in Indonesia.
On October 14, 2014, at the "International Symposium on Applied Systems Analysis-Strategic Discussion on Cross-cutting Issues in Sustainable Agriculture" (International Symposium on Applied System Analysis - Rehearsing Strategic Program Related to Cross Cutting Issues for Sustainable Agriculture) held in Jakarta, Indonesia, researcher Zhu Lizhi, vice president of the China Foreign Agricultural Economic Research Association and director of the Resources and Environmental Economics Research Office of the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, was invited to give a keynote speech.
Researcher Zhu Lizhi's report is entitled "the practice and strategic vision of China's agricultural sustainable development". The report first comprehensively expounds China's achievements and good practices in sustainable agricultural development, especially the continuous increase in grain production and farmers' income, the steady increase in the utilization rate of agricultural resources, the continuous increase in agricultural ecological protection and the improvement of rural human settlements. Then, the report discusses what is the path of sustainable agricultural development with Chinese characteristics from the aspects of development path, development goals, development steps and connotation. The report believes that although China has made many achievements in the sustainable development of agriculture, it still faces severe challenges. It must insist on taking into account the quantity and quality of resources, fully considering the carrying capacity of the ecological environment, and planning for above-ground production, it is also necessary to pay attention to the principles of underground productivity, not to focus on input but to attach importance to the material cycle within the system, to partition "rest and recuperation" in order to pursue the overall development effect, to deal with the use of both domestic and foreign resources at the same time, not to pursue "arable land food" one-sidedly but to open up "three-dimensional food" resources. Finally, the report lists the main tasks of China's agricultural sustainable development in terms of agricultural resource utilization, agricultural environmental governance and agricultural ecological construction, and puts forward key safeguard measures.
The conference was co-sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture of Indonesia, the Indonesian Academy of Sciences, and the Japan International Agriculture, Forestry and Aquatic Industry Research Center. The participating institutions included the International Institute for Applied System Analysis, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Australian International Agricultural Research Center, the Korean Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and the Asian Competitiveness Academic groups and social organizations such as the Institute, Singapore-Indonesia Federation of Industry and Commerce.
