Food Security Update, September 2026
This report is the World Bank's monthly food security monitoring briefing. The September 2026 data show that the global food market is generally stable but prices are rising: grain prices have risen 18%, corn by 26% and wheat by 22% since June 2026, mainly due to tighter production conditions and rising fertilizer costs. El Niño conditions have emerged and are expected to continue until early 2027; about 62 million people in East and Southern Africa need assistance, and there is still a credible risk of famine in Somalia, South Sudan and Sudan. The latest quarterly data show that real food prices have risen more than headline inflation in about 22 per cent of the 150 countries analyzed, up from 14 per cent in the previous period. The report is a high-frequency reference for tracking global food prices, hunger hotspots and humanitarian needs.
