Vietnam Encourages Farmers to Develop Cashew Planting and Processing
In the first eight months of 2015, Vietnam exported 214000 tons of cashew nuts, with an export value of US $1.55 billion billion, an increase of 8.4 and 22% respectively, and an increase of 13% in export prices. The United States, the Netherlands and China continue to be Vietnam's top three cashew nut export markets, with export shares of 36.55 per cent, 12.43 per cent and 11.95 per cent, respectively. Vietnam has become the world's largest exporter of cashew nuts. According to the Vietnam Cashew Association, at present, the raw materials of cashew nuts grown in Vietnam are difficult to meet the processing demand, and the price of cashew nuts raw materials is higher than the import price due to the shortage of supply.
According to the report, Vietnam's cashew nut planting area ranks fourth in the world, mainly distributed in Pingfu, Tongnai and Lam provinces, with planting areas of 182000 hectares, 50000 hectares and 25000 hectares respectively. In order to encourage farmers to carry out the "big farmland" planting mode and combine processing and sales, the Vietnamese government provides the following preferential policies: credit preference; investment in water conservancy and infrastructure construction; farmers' technical training fees, etc.
