G-33 countries urge WTO to agree on food security
china News Agency, Bali, December 2 (Reporter Gu Shihong) Ministers or representatives from G-33 member states held a meeting in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia on the 2nd to urge WTO members to reach an agreement on food security issues.
The meeting was presided over by Indonesian Trade Minister Jeddah as part of the Ninth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization, which will open on the 3rd.
Jeddah told reporters after the meeting that the meeting reached agreement on G-33 proposals related to food security, including reducing trade barriers, enhancing the competitiveness of developing countries, and emphasizing the need for special product agreements and special safeguard mechanisms. It also emphasized that the WTO should play its fair role in ensuring the healthy development of the multilateral trading system. G-33 hope that other WTO members will approve their proposals, including changes to the WTO's agricultural agreement so that they can provide greater subsidies to farmers.
Indonesian presidential palace spokesman Julian also said on the 2nd that Indonesian President Susilo will attend the Ninth World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference, which opens on the 3rd. It is said that nearly 10,000 trade ministers and representatives from 167 countries around the world will attend the meeting and discuss global trade issues. (END)
