Seminar on Prospects for Agricultural Cooperation in Northeast Asia during the 14th Five-Year Plan Period Concluded Successfully

Coordinating the development and safety of agricultural industry is an important issue to accelerate agricultural modernization during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period. Under the influence of the new crown pneumonia and the persistent uncertainty of the world situation, it is a great challenge to carry out international agricultural exchanges and cooperation and promote agricultural trade, which affects the security of China's agricultural industry and food security. Agricultural cooperation in Northeast Asia is an important part of China's agricultural cooperation with foreign countries. Strengthening agricultural cooperation in Northeast Asia is of great significance for improving the level of China's agricultural cooperation with foreign countries and ensuring national food security.

On August 18, 2021, the Symposium on the Prospect of Agricultural Cooperation in Northeast Asia during the 14th Five-Year Plan Period was successfully held. The meeting focused on the topics of China's agricultural modernization during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the implementation of the strategy of ensuring the supply of food and important agricultural products, the focus and ideas of promoting agricultural cooperation in Northeast Asia, the current situation of agricultural development in Northeast Asia and the needs of cooperation. Affected by the epidemic, the seminar was held simultaneously in Beijing and Harbin in an online and offline manner. Nearly 230 experts, scholars, teachers and students from domestic research institutions, universities and research institutes attended the meeting on-site or online.

Li Cuixia, member of the Standing Committee of the Party committee of Northeast Agricultural University and President of Heilongjiang Academy of green food science, and Yuan Peng, deputy director of the Institute of rural development, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and President of China Association of foreign agricultural economics, delivered opening speeches on behalf of the organizers and organizers. Du Zhixiong, the former chairman of the Chinese Society of Foreign Agricultural Economics and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Institute of Rural Development of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a keynote report on "Changes and Trends in Agricultural Operation Scale in the World and Major East Asian Countries. Cao Jianmin, vice president of China Foreign Agricultural Economic Research Association and Professor Cao Jianmin of Jilin Agricultural University, made a special report on the differences in agricultural GDP in various countries and their influencing factors.

In view of the theme of the prospect of agricultural cooperation in Northeast Asia during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the meeting set up five discussion links, such as macro perspective, agricultural opening and development, national discussion, industry strategy, current situation and experience. Lu Jie, vice president of China Foreign Agricultural Economic Research Association, member of the Standing Committee of the Party committee and vice president of Shenyang Agricultural University, presided over some links. Zhao Huirong, researcher of the Russian Institute of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Pan Weiguang of Zhejiang Agriculture and Forestry University, Professor Wang Lei of Suzhou University, Professor Zhang Zongyi of Jiangsu University, Yang Jing, Deputy Director of Agricultural Trade Promotion Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Li Xiaozhong, Associate Researcher of Heilongjiang Green Food Science Research Institute, Cao Bin, Associate Researcher of Rural Development Institute of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Yu Min, associate researcher Li Jinghu, Institute of Food and Nutrition Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Associate Professor Luo Haoxuan, Chengdu University of Technology, Associate Researcher Liu Zifei, Associate Researcher Zhang Yizhuo, Associate Researcher of Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, Associate Professor Han Xiaoyan, Shenyang Agricultural University, Lecturer Li Deli, Northeast Agricultural University, fourteen experts and scholars made special speeches on the political and economic characteristics of Northeast Asian countries, the development of agricultural industry, the agricultural market and investment environment, the trade of agricultural products, the prospect of agricultural cooperation and rural construction, and provided suggestions on promoting agricultural cooperation in Northeast Asia during the 14th five-year Plan.

At the closing ceremony, Yuan Peng summarized the results of this seminar. She pointed out that based on the new development stage, implementing the new development concept and building a new development pattern have become the path choice for my country's modernization drive. The construction of a new mechanism of cross-regional agricultural cooperation in Northeast Asia is of great strategic significance for China to coordinate the development and security of agricultural industry and speed up agricultural modernization. At present, the research results on agricultural cooperation in Northeast Asia are not rich enough. This symposium focuses on agricultural cooperation in Northeast Asia, discusses key issues, and puts forward countermeasures and suggestions, which reflects the organizational purpose and mission of the China Foreign Agricultural Economic Research Association. The research society should take this opportunity to continue to practice and actively promote the academic circles to study the major theoretical and practical problems of agricultural cooperation in Northeast Asia, and make positive efforts to promote the modernization of China's agriculture and rural areas.

This seminar was sponsored by the China Foreign Agricultural Economic Research Association and the Rural Development Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and hosted by the Heilongjiang Academy of Green Food Science and the School of Economics and Management of Northeast Agricultural University. It was supported by journals such as "China Rural Economy", "China Rural Observation", "World Agriculture", "Agricultural Economics and Management", "Journal of Northeast Agricultural University (Social Science Edition)", "Journal of Shanxi Agricultural University (Social Science Edition)" and other journals. During the preparation and holding of the conference, the China Foreign Agricultural Economic Research Association, together with the Heilongjiang Provincial Institute of Green Food Science and the School of Economics and Management of Northeast Agricultural University, planned and launched a discussion on the topic of "Northeast Asia Agricultural Observation" in Toutiao. Experts and scholars were invited to discuss the hot issues of agricultural development in Northeast Asia. The cumulative reading volume reached 5 million times, and significant social impact was achieved.
