the latest rice outlook report released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture shows that the price of most high-quality finished rice in Thailand has fallen by about 4% in the past month, while the price of low-and medium-quality rice has fallen by 10%, mainly due to the weakening of the Thai baht exchange rate, lack of sales and the recent listing of rice harvests in the main season. Prices of steamed cereal and fragrant rice also fell. In the week ending January 6, Thailand's export price of 100 B- grade rice was US $414 per ton, down US $16 from the price on December 9, which was also the lowest since January 2008. Thailand's 5% broken rice is quoted at US $401 per ton, down US $14 from the same period last month. The price of steamed rice is about US $440 per ton, down US $14 from a month ago.
