vietnam exported 583,294 tons of rice in March 2014, up 76 percent from February, the Vietnam Food Association said on Monday. From January to March this year, Vietnam exported 1.22 million tons of rice with an output value of 0.53 billion US dollars.

During the first quarter of this year, more than 40% of Vietnam's rice exports were shipped to China and 31% to the Philippines. Vietnam was the world's third largest exporter of rice last year, after India and Thailand. Vietnam exported 6.7 million tons of rice in 2013, down from a record 7.72 million tons in 2012. Vietnam plans to export 650 to 7 million tons of rice this year.
