Global Sustainable Development Report 2023

Written by a panel of independent scientists appointed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations and supported by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, this report is published every four years to provide the scientific basis for the High-level Political Forum and the Sustainable Development Goals Summit. The 2023 edition, entitled "time of crisis, time of change: the science of accelerating the transformation of sustainable development", points out that with only seven years left in 2030, gradual and fragmented change is not enough to achieve all 17 goals, but requires a systematic transformation of the whole society. The report emphasizes key "entry points" such as human well-being, sustainable and just economies, sustainable food systems and healthy nutrition, energy decarbonization, urban and rural development, global environmental public goods, and "levers" such as governance, finance, technology, individual and collective action, and capacity-building, and points out that there is more synergy than trade-offs among the goals.
