Cotton This Month, September 2026
Published monthly by the Washington-based International Cotton Advisory Council, this report is the authoritative forecast of global cotton supply, demand and prices independent of the USDA. In September 2026, the global cotton output in 2026/27 is expected to be 26.2 million tons, slightly higher than the consumption of 25.9 million tons. The agency suggested that historical experience shows that the output estimate is usually about 100000 tons lower than the initial one. In case of severe weather or insect pests, the output in 2026/27 may fall back to 2600-26.1 million tons. The report disclosed that China has continued to put in national reserve cotton since July 20 (about 8000 tons per session), and India's output in 2025/26 has been revised up to 5.5 million tons (up 9% year-on-year). The agency predicts that the Cotlook A index will run in the 62-99 cents/pound range for 2026/27, with a median of 78 cents/pound.
