Growing of Organic Agricultural Products in Czech Republic
After nearly seven years of stagnation, the cultivation of organic agricultural products in the Czech Republic has begun to resume growth in the past two years with the increase of domestic demand. A total of 322 new organic food farms were established from January to September this year.
According to statistics, in 2013, the consumption of organic food in the Czech Republic was nearly 2 billion koruna (about 73.9 million euros), an increase of 9.5 percent over the same period last year. Nevertheless, due to the relatively high price of organic food, its consumption in the total food consumption of Czechs is still very small, less than 1%. According to the Czech Ministry of Agriculture, due to the dual supervision of domestic regulations and EU regulations, the Czech organic agricultural product planting industry has to bear heavy compliance costs every year, resulting in high product prices.
At present, the cultivation area of organic agricultural products in the Czech Republic has exceeded 500000 hectares, accounting for nearly 12% of the total cultivated land in the Czech Republic. One of the top five organic food manufacturers in the EU is a Czech company.
