The Logic of Planting Grain for Small Farmers: The Transformation of China's Agricultural Planting Structure and Future Strategies in the Past 40 Years

Members' work

The long-term and continuous growth of China's grain since 2003 is not directly stimulated by exogenous economic factors, nor is it directly induced by agricultural tax relief and agricultural subsidy policies, but is determined by the endogenous self-execution mechanism of farmers in the process of factor flow and involvement in the agricultural division of labor. The grain-growing logic of China's small farmers is expressed through three aspects: factor allocation, land ownership expectation and deepening division of labor. The small-scale decentralized agricultural family management pattern does not constitute an obstacle to China's food security, on the contrary, it contains important organizational advantages and mobilization potential. The basic strategies of China's food security in the future include: maintaining the stability and long-term nature of agricultural family management; inducing small-scale farmers' production to be involved in the division of labor economy and integrate into the process of modern agricultural development; and adhering to the basic policy bottom line of food security in the process of factor flow.
