according to a report released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Brazil's rice production in 2014 is expected to be 12.3 million tons, an increase of about 4.23 percent over the previous year's output of 11.76 million tons. The average rice yield in 2014 is expected to be 5.3 tons per hectare, an increase of about 6% over the previous year's 5 tons. Improved planting and cultivation techniques have boosted Brazilian rice yields. IBGE also expects the area of rice harvested to grow by about 2 per cent this year.

Brazil's General Administration of Commodity Supply (Conab) predicted in June that Brazil's rice production in 2013/14 would be 12.25 million tons, lower than the earlier forecast of 12.632 million tons, but up 4% from the previous year.

USDA expects Brazil's finished rice output to be 8.6 million tons in 2013/14 (April to March of the following year), up 8% year on year. (Source: Master Boyi
