The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2026

This report is the UN Food and Agriculture Organization's biennial flagship report, with the theme of the 2026 edition being "Blue Transition: Transforming Vision into Impact". The report estimates that in 2024, the total global fishery and aquaculture production will reach a record 0.235 billion tons, of which 0.195 billion tons are aquatic animals; aquaculture aquatic animal production will exceed 0.1 billion tons (0.103 billion tons) for the first time, with an output value of about US $371 billion, accounting for the total aquatic animal production. 53%. The trade volume of aquatic animal products reached 184 billion billion US dollars, which is equivalent to the scale of terrestrial meat trade, and about 36% of the output enters international trade. The proportion of biologically sustainable stocks in the global assessment decreased from 64.5 per cent to 62.4 per cent, but 72.6 per cent of landings came from sustainably fished stocks. The report predicts that by 2034, aquatic animal production will increase to 0.214 billion tons, aquaculture will account for 56%, and the per capita supply will be about 21.9kg.
