Global Economic Prospects, June 2026

This report is the World Bank's semi-annual flagship macro report. The June 2026 edition notes that conflicts in the Middle East have pushed up energy prices, inflation and borrowing costs, and global growth is expected to slow from 2.9 percent in 2025 to 2.5 percent in 2026, the lowest since the epidemic, before rebounding to 2.8 percent in 2027. The benchmark scenario assumes that the most serious disruption eases after July, with the average Brent crude oil price expected to reach $94 per barrel in 2026, 36 per cent higher than in 2025; global fertilizer prices rising significantly and transmitting to food prices; and global inflation rising from 3.3 per cent in 2025 to 4.0 per cent in 2026. Growth in developing economies fell to a post-epidemic low of 3.6 per cent and in low-income countries to 5.4 per cent. The report warns that global growth could be only 1.3 per cent in 2026 if energy disruptions become more severe and financial stress is overlaid.
