Global Report on Food Crises 2026
This report is coordinated by the Global Network for Food Crises (GNAFC) and prepared by the Food Security Information Network (FSIN). The 2026 edition is the 10th edition, with 18 participating agencies (including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the World Food Programme, the World Bank, the European Union, etc.). The report shows that in 2025, about 0.266 billion people in 47 countries and regions will experience high-level sudden food insecurity, accounting for nearly 23% of the analyzed population, almost double the proportion compared with 2016; the number of people in catastrophic hunger (IPC phase 5) is nine times that of 2016. For the first time in 2025, famine was confirmed in two different areas of Gaza and Sudan in the same year, the first time in a decade since the report was released. In 2025 alone, 35.5 million children will be acutely malnourished, almost 10 million of them severe acute malnutrition, and more than 85 million people will be forcibly displaced in food crisis areas. The report warns that the widening data gap leads to a decline in the number of people covered, which does not mean that the situation has really improved.
