The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2026

This report is the United Nations' annual report on progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. According to the report, investments since 2015 have benefited billions of people: nearly 1 billion people have access to safe drinking water, 1.2 billion people have access to safely managed sanitation, electricity reaches 92% of the world's population, Internet penetration has increased from 40% to 74%, and social protection covers more than half of the world's population for the first time. However, of the 139 target items with trend data, only 36% are progressing smoothly or moderately, 49% are progressing too slowly, and 15% have regressed below the 2015 baseline. The zero hunger target is particularly lagging behind. 1 in 10 people remain in extreme poverty; about 2.3 billion people face moderate or severe food insecurity; and more than 0.15 billion children are stunted. The report highlights the need to bridge the $4 trillion/year financing gap for the Sustainable Development Goals through reform of the international financial architecture.
