Cotton: World Markets and Trade, September 2026

This report is published on a monthly basis by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Overseas Farm Service and is synchronized with the World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates Report, covering cotton area, production, imports and exports, consumption and inventories worldwide and in major countries. The September 2026 report lowered global cotton production by more than 300000 bales to 0.11732 billion bales in 2026/27, while global consumption remained unchanged at 0.12292 billion bales. Due to the increase in opening inventories, global ending inventories increased by about 170000 bales to 69.86 million bales instead of falling. U.S. cotton production fell 3% to 13.2 million bales due to a decline in yield, while the average price of upland cotton farms rose to 78 cents per pound. The report is accompanied by a complete country-by-country supply and demand table, which is the monthly authoritative source for tracking trade and prices of textile raw materials.
