World Trade Report 2026
The 2026 edition of the World Trade Organization's flagship annual report, "A Crucial Moment for the World Trading System," looks at 80 years of achievements of the multilateral trading system and analyses current challenges. The report sets three scenarios for the global trading system: under the "strengthened multilateral framework" scenario, global GDP will increase by 2.9 per cent, exports will increase by 17.9 per cent and GDP of the least developed countries will increase by 7.7 per cent by 2050; Under the "geo-fragmentation" scenario, global GDP and exports will decline by 5.1 per cent and 18.6 per cent respectively. Under the "FTA-led" scenario, they will decline by 6.9 per cent and 26.9 per cent respectively. The report notes that the global real GDP gap could be as high as 5-10 per cent in both scenarios of strengthening and eroding multilateral rules, and emphasizes that agricultural bound tax rates are generally higher than non-agricultural (about 68 per cent in low-income economies).
