Based on the actual evolution process of small farmers since the rural reform, this paper defines and puts forward the identification criteria of small farmers, and makes a comparative analysis and prospect judgment on the dynamic characteristics of their differentiation and the situational choice of development. First, under the trend of decreasing total amount, small farmers will evolve in the direction of sideline agriculture at the family level, specialization at the labor level, and intergenerational division of labor to intergenerational transmission. Some small farmers will gradually withdraw from agriculture. Some small farmers have developed into an important source of new agricultural business entities and service entities; second, in the process of rural market reform, small farmers have formed the situational choice of specialization, organization, service and industrialization, which provides multiple paths for small farmers with different differentiation characteristics to connect modern agriculture; third, the policy promotes the organic connection between small farmers and modern agricultural development, and gives priority to supporting small farmers to develop and grow in the direction of scale, specialization and service, Provide institutional support and service support for small farmers to choose different development situations, help small farmers to participate in the modern agricultural industry chain, supply chain and value chain. To promote the organic connection between small farmers and modern agricultural development, we must pay attention to the matching of dynamic characteristics and situational choices, and formulate a strategic, systematic, collaborative and holistic combination of convergence paths.
