The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2026
This report is jointly issued by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the United Nations Children's Fund, the World Food Programme and the World Health Organization. It is the authoritative annual report for monitoring the global food security and nutrition situation and the progress of Sustainable Development Goal 2. The report estimates that about 0.645 billion people (7.8 percent of the global population) will face hunger in 2025, about 14 million fewer people than in the previous year and the third consecutive year of decline; about 2.1 billion people (25.8 percent) will experience moderate or severe food insecurity. The number of hungry people in Africa is about 0.309 billion, and the incidence rate has dropped from 20.3 per cent to 20.0 per cent, still ranking first in the world in absolute terms. The theme of this issue, "Addressing the High Cost of Healthy Diets", points out that the global average cost of healthy meals will rise to 4.28 purchasing power parity dollars per person per day in 2025, which is unaffordable for about 2.69 billion people (32.7 per cent) and up to 66.6 per cent in Africa. The report predicts that if the trend continues, about 0.52 billion people will still face hunger in 2030.
